Town Twinning experience

I have just had a super weekend and all because I joined Baldock Town Twinning recently.

I had thought about joining for a while and put it off for several years mainly on the grounds of not having enough time. Well, it’s a commitment of just a long weekend each year actually, so not much time - and I now wish it could have been even longer!

The French visitors, including ours, arrived on a Thursday and the fun began. On Friday we all went on a coach excursion to Peterborough Cathedral and Flag Fen, a Bronze Age site nearby. Saturday evening there was a gala dinner & dance for the entire group together. Sunday saw a farewell reception for those who could make it.

As Saturday was free for most of the time, we took our visitor to Cambridge. The rest of the time was organised amongst ourselves, meeting with other small groupings as we wished.

It was great to share information, experiences and loads of laughs with people from another country, sharing our ideas and yes even problems. I can highly recommend it.

There are a lot of friendly people in Sanvignes-les-mines (in Burgundy) and in Eisenberg (in western Germany), who are looking forward to finding someone here to exchange with. I got to use my French, which was great fun but not essential, and I hope to learn some German for next year when I meet my new German friends.

Younger people in particular would be welcome. Why not join the Town Twinning group and see whether it works for you?
